Le Pape Benoît XVI a nommé
le P. Albert Thévenot,
de la Société des Missionnaires d’Afrique,
évêque du diocèse de Prince Albert
Province de Saskatchewan, au Canada.
Le P. Albert Thévenot, 63 ans,
né au Manitoba,
est entré dans la Société comme laïc (Frère).
Il a été missionnaire en Tanzanie.
Après des études de théologie à Londres,
il a été ordonné prêtre et est retourné en Tanzanie.
Il a été assistant général du
P. François Richard pendant son généralat (1998-2004).
Il est actuellement
Provincial de l’Amérique du Nord. (Canada, U.S.A, Mexique)

Le diocèse de Prince Albert se situe au centre- nord du Saskatchewan, à environ 2500 km à l’ouest de Montréal. Les catholiques y sont 40.000 sur 160.000 de population. Quelques Oblats de Marie y travaillent toujours. Il y a une trentaine de prêtres actifs dans le diocèse dont une vingtaine sont originaires d’Asie, d’Amérique latine et d’Afrique. Sur les 87 paroisses, il y en a une dizaine d’amérindiennes (Premières nations). Langues liturgiques : anglais, français et amérindien (Cris, Nakotas-Assiniboines, Dénés, Anishinabés-Saulteux-Ojibwas... et les Métis).Ordination prévue le 6 août à Prince Albert 19h30 (3h30 heure de Rome le 7-08-2008)
en la fête de la Transfiguration, dans la Cathédrale du Sacré Cœur, par le Nonce apostolique Mgr Luigi Ventura. Les deux co-consécrateurs seront Mgr Blaise Morand, son prédécesseur, et Mgr Robert Gay, Missionnaire d'Afrique.

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed
Fr. Albert Thévenot
of the Society of Missionaries of Africa
Bishop of Prince Albert Diocese,
Saskatchewan Province, Canada.
Fr. Albert Thévenot, 63,
born in Manitoba,
joined the Society as a layman (Brother).
He was a Missionary in Tanzania.
After theology studies in London, UK,
he was ordained a priest and returned to Tanzania.
He served as Assistant General in the Society,
during the mandate of Fr. François Richard, Sup. Gen., (1998-2004).
He is currently
Provincial of North America.(Canada, U.S.A, Mexico)

The Diocese of Prince Albert is in the centre-north of the Province of Saskatchewan, 2,500 km west of Montreal. There are 40,000 Catholics in a population of 160,000. Some Oblates of Mary Immaculate are still working there. There are approximately thirty priests active in the diocese, including some twenty or so from Asia, Latin America and Africa. Out of 87 parishes, there are about ten Amerindian ones (First Nations). Liturgical languages include English, French, and Amerindian (Cree, Nakotas-Assiniboines, Denes, Anishinabes-Saulteux-Ojibwas...and Metis).Ordination on the 6th of August in Prince Albert 7.30 p.m. ( 2.30 a.m. in Rome 07-08-2008)
