Aujourd'hui commence la deuxième partie du Chapitre : le JUGER. Elle durera deux semaines et demie qui seront consacrées au thème central qui est 'la mission' et aux autres points de l'agenda. Trois temps de prière et de discernement encadreront cette étape qui s'achèvera avec l'élection du nouveau Conseil général au début de la quatrième semaine. Ce sera un temps d'écoute, de discernement et de partage communautaire sur les appels de l'Esprit Saint sur la Société.

Cette semaine, les capitulants " jugeront " le premier point de l'agenda, la mission, qui comprend la Rencontre et le dialogue interreligieux, Justice et Paix et Intégrité de la Création (JPIC), et 'spiritualité et la mission'. Ces éléments pourront être accompagnés de la sauvegarde des plus vulnérables, la protection des enfants, et aussi de l'apprentissage de la langue locale.

Discerner les appels de l'Esprit pour la Société exige quatre choses : un temps d'écoute de l'autre, des signes des temps dans la Société et dans le monde ; un détachement, une liberté intérieure, une ouverture ; un temps de prière ; l'accueil des lumières que Dieu nous donne ensemble.

Dans une période de réflexion personnelle, chacun s'est posé la question : Qu'est-ce que l'Esprit nous dit comme Société aujourd'hui ? Il a ensuite partagé sa réflexion dans son groupe qui a gardé 3 ou 4 points. Chaque groupe a ensuite présenté son rapport à la grande assemblée. Dans l'après-midi, Mgr Elias Maroun Lahham, évêque de Tunis, Tunisie, est venu donner une conférence sur le thème de " Mission et religions non-chrétiennes " (Réservé). Retenons de cette conférence que la théologie des religions et le dialogue avec l'islam sont une nécessité pour le christianisme et pour l'islam. Le conférencier a aussi affirmé que sans les Pères Blancs, il n'y aurait sans doute plus d'Église au Maghreb. Il a insisté pour dire que notre mission est de marcher avec les hommes de notre temps, de les accompagner d'une manière individuelle, dans la simplicité, de rechercher une inculturation linguistique.

Après une série de questions posées au conférencier, les capitulants ont été invités à aller réfléchir personnellement à partir de cette causerie et des points inscrits aux pages 7 à 9 du texte des précapitulaires à propos de la Rencontre et du Dialogue interreligieux. Ils doivent se poser ces deux questions : Où en sommes-nous sur cet aspect central de notre mission (les acquis, les zones grises et les malaises) ? Quels sont les principaux défis à relever maintenant dans ce domaine de la rencontre (ce qu'il y a à approfondir, améliorer, modifier) ?

CHAPTER 2010: MONDAY 17th MAY

Today, the second part of the Chapter began with JUDGE. It will last two-and-a-half weeks, devoted to the central topic of Mission and other points on the agenda. Three periods of prayer and discernment will provide a framework for this phase, which will culminate in the election of the new General Council at the beginning of the fourth week. This will be a time for listening, discernment and community sharing on the promptings of the Holy Spirit for the Society.

This week, the Capitulants will 'judge' the first point on the agenda: Mission, which includes Encounter and Interreligious Dialogue, Justice and Peace and the Integrity of Creation (JPIC) and 'the spirituality of mission'. These elements may be accompanied by the safeguard of the most vulnerable, Child Protection and local language learning.

Discerning the promptings of the Spirit for the Society demands four things: a time for listening to others, to the signs of the times in the Society and in the world; detachment, an inner freedom, openness; a time of prayer; a receptive attitude to the enlightenment that God bestows on us together.

During a period of personal reflection, each one asked himself, 'What is the Spirit telling us as a Society today?' His reflection was then shared with his group, which retained 3 or 4 points. Each group then presented its report to the main assembly. You will find the collection of group reports on the intranet.

In the afternoon, the Most Reverend Bishop Maroun Lahham of Tunis, Tunisia, came to give a conference on 'Non-Christian Religions and Mission' (Intranet) . We note from this conference that the theology of religions and dialogue with Islam are a necessity for Christianity and Islam. The speaker also affirmed that without the White Fathers, there would probably be no Church left in the Maghreb. He insisted on articulating how our mission is to walk with the people of our time, to accompany them in a particular way, in all simplicity, seeking linguistic inculturation.

After a series of questions asked of the speaker, the Capitulants were invited to base their personal reflections on this talk and on the points on pages 7 - 9 of the pre-Capitular texts concerning Encounter and Interreligious Dialogue. They were to ask themselves the two following questions: Where do we find ourselves on this central aspect of our mission? (Gains acquired, 'grey' areas, the discomforts). What are the main challenges that we need to face now in this area? (What do we need to deepen, improve, modify?)
