Oath & Diaconate / Serment & Diaconat

On Friday evening (09-10-2009) our two newest confreres, Filiyanus Ekka from India and Marcin Perfikowski from Poland made their missionary commitment during a Eucharistic celebration in the South B formation house in the presence of most of the Missionaries of Africa and MSOLA of Nairobi.
Unfortunately the provincial of TanKenSud, Don Anderson, who had planned to preside the ceremony, had to cancel his visit at the last minute because of the attack on the parish of Bukumbi. He, therefore, asked the Sector Councillor, Fr. Bill Moroney to replace him.

Together with all the students from South B and South C, the confreres of the sector, the MSOLA we had a number of visitors. Fr Hans Pfeiffer who worked for many years in Bangalore came from Arusha and Fr. Binu, one of the new generation of Indian confreres, who is now working in Dar es Salaam came to represent the Indian branch of the Society. Marcin was supported in a special way by his parents, brother and a priest from his home diocese.

We hope that the rain that fell during the reception that followed the Mass was a sign of God's blessing. (In the past months we have had extremely little rain - in this context rain is a real blessing.)

The next day they were ordained deacons. This year a number of the formators of missionary societies and congregations organised a common ordination at Tangaza College where our students do their theological studies. Bishop Norman King'oo Wambua of Bungoma diocese (in western Kenya) ordained a total of 32 deacons from nine different congregations and societies. The theme of the whole ceremony was "service and mission". This ordination was part of our missionary animation of Tangaza for the month of October.
Marcin and Filiyanus will remain with us until the end of January - when they will complete their theological studies and do their final exams.
